CTR related problem - how to increase it
CTR could just have been an everlasting issue for the vast majority of adsensers, especially those who are barely getting on the highway, among which I’m the centurion. -D Anyway, one guy at webmasterworld had some trouble figuring out why one of the ad placements underperformed the rest.

With exact CTRs revealed, he is apparently not very versed in the program policy of Adsense, which might prove disastrous on your Adsense account in future. So get yourself a good treat of the program policy first.
Hearty members of WW gives him and us some ideas for improving the CTR, let’s take a look at them:
- Google made researches to find out some of the most effective ad positions, so take their word for it. Implement some of your ads according to this heat map and experiment more to adapt to your own content structure.
- Get targeted visitors to your content, so as to make sure visitors interested in your content also have interest in the ads you are serving, thus enhancing CTR.
- Take advantage of the section targeting codes to tell Google what ads you want to get. Of course you have to make it relevant to your content. Though the man refused section targeting, I think he may give it a try to highlight the theme of his site so Google won’t display any irrelevant ads.
- He asked how he can know what ads are being displayed for another country’s visitors other than from his own, Canada, like America. Here’s how.
This guy called timwestla came up with an interesting theory that caught my attention, that he intentionally implements irrevelant image ads to improve the CTR of text ads, which are well targeted. In his argument, visitors will pay more attention to text ads due to the irrelevant image ads, thinking Okay, so this is advertisement cause’ it’s all flashing and off-topic, and I will not click on them….Subconsciously, they view text ads as content of site rather than ads, thus incurring more clicks.
