Question about section targeting

A question raised about where to implement the section targeting codes,

<!– google_ad_section_start –>

<!– google_ad_section_end –>

if you want to get more relevant ads that’s targeted on your primary content.

Thread answers about section targeting

  1. Put your selling point content in between the 2 lines, so that the Google adsense spider knows that you clearly choose to publish ads related to those content rather than off-topc ones that bring in lower CTR.
  2. Also one hearty helper pointed out that this would not do as well as you may have expected.
  3. Instead of putting real content in between the codes, populating the gap with specific keywords will also help. —-Though suggested by one participant, it’s against what Google officially says to some extent. See below and beware.
  4. Don’t abuse it though, as may seen by Google that you are trying to get high paying keywords that’re not related to your content.

Google Adsense help document

I also checked the help document of Adsense for section targeting, some of the key points that I think you should be aware of are:

  1. Section targeting is only deemed by Google as suggestions, so the results may quite not be what you want.
  2. It takes up to 2 weeks to be taken into account by Google Adsense crawlers after being implemented. Be patient.
  3. You should include a significant amount of content in those codes for Google to get your idea or it may results in non-related ads or PSAs, and even being considered as manipulation of ad targeting which is against the TOS.

Exclude words for Adsense targeting

Just add those around words not intended for Adsense targeting, and Adsense will not bother you any more by serving irrelevant ads.
